Prodigy engineer Penny Copper works in a repair shop haphazardly run out of an old man's house. Rick Burning Sky was a prolific robotics expert who left behind his former life to fix broken laptops. An engineer and sorcerer, Symbol works with mechanical golems to defend and support the city. Or - he used to.
How does heroism face up against grief? Is a borrowed costume and malfunctioning magical ability enough to fill the hole left by a hero? (How do you file self employment taxes for secret robotics expenses? Asking for a friend.)
Symbol is a story about identity, self-made family, and robotics.
Oath is a comic anthology of 21 superhero stories showcasing the talent of queer-led creative teams. Funded via Kickstarter in 2015, Oath imagines lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans characters as the heroes of their own stories, and throws them up against their ‘oath-taking’ moment - a foundational scene in the development of their heroic identity.
I created and edited this anthology solo, and contributed the story "In The Ring" (a spin-off from Symbol) with Kelly and Nichole Matthews.
With the book kickstarted when I was 19, this was my first campaign and it was a bear - taking about a year longer than anticipated! Read more about the process on my blog.
With the fulfillment, over 200+ copies of Oath were donated to youth groups, schools, and libraries.
Created during 24-hour comic day 2016 with excellent cartoonist Mari Costa, Advanced Desks & Dividends: 1st Edition is a 24-page comic about adventures settling down in a tavern to play "DND."
You can read it for free online, or you can buy it in book form at Hivemill.
